Emergency Breathing Air Cascade System (EBACS) for FSO (Floating Storage and Offloading facility)

Sabre Safety’s brief was to design, build, install and commission an EBACS capable of supplying air for 105 personnel for a duration up to 12 hours in the event of an uncontrolled release of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) or similar emergency.

The challenge was to deliver a system which could cope with a large number of people breathing simultaneously from a single supply. The best available technology was deployed in the shape of dual reducing stations which were developed to Sabre’s exacting requirements by a specialist manufacturer and key supplier. These reducing stations can deliver flow-rates in excess of 250,000 litres per minute.

The design allowed for built-in levels of redundancy to ensure that the system will never be ‘off-line’ and that the crew will always be protected.

The project was successfully delivered on time and within budget. Both systems are now deployed on vessels working in offshore Qatar.
