On behalf of The Starn Group; Safehouse and Sabre Safety, along with the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, are proud to announce our co-sponsorship of a penguin in this year’s Maggie’s Penguin Parade.  There will be a trail going live on 29th June which will continue all summer culminating in a grand farewell event in Slessor Gardens on 22nd and 23rd September before a spectacular auction on 24 September 2018.

The sculpture will be located outside the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce office at City Quay for the duration of the event, before being taken to auction to help raise funds for Maggie’s Centre Dundee.

Maggie’s Centres provide free practical, social and emotional support for people with cancer and their families and friends offering a programme of support that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing.  Built in the grounds of Ninewells Hospital Maggie’s centre, designed by Frank Gehry, is warm, welcoming, and full of light and open space.  It’s a place to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; a place where qualified experts provide emotional support; a place to meet other people or simply sit with a cup of tea.

The Maggie’s Centre costs £540,000 per year to run and the aim for the parade is to raise enough money to open the Maggie’s centre doors for a year.

Sabre Safety Services Limited is Acquired by Dundee-based Starn Group

Sabre Safety Services Limited is Acquired by Dundee-based Starn Group

Starn Group, a private equity-backed group of businesses focused on safety and delivering economic benefit to its customers, has recently added Sabre Safety Services to its growing portfolio alongside Safehouse Habitats (Scotland) Ltd. Safehouse offers a range of ‘habitats’ which control environments to achieve safe working conditions.

The Starn Group members work around the globe from regional hubs located in the UK, UAE, US, Australia and Malaysia as well as through various partners. The private equity funds which own Starn Group are Energy Growth Momentum and Simmons Private Equity, both of which are focused on investments in the energy industry.

Starn finance director Rick Clark said the group was delighted to bring Sabre into its portfolio alongside Safehouse.

“From an investor point of view, we saw Sabre as a business which was quite complementary to the Safehouse business that Starn already holds. The plan is to continue trading separately to start with until we really get our hands around the Sabre business and focus on growth potential.

“There is an expectation the market is improving in the North Sea and more widely. That is not showing up in the numbers yet, but it is in the level of inquiries and orders. What is different for Sabre is that, clearly, with a new company the financial strength is considerably improved. There is work out there and we should be able to get the company performing to the best of their abilities. Once we have got our arms around it we can look at the benefits of business development across both businesses. But for now, we are just delighted. They are a good team and it is a business that we have a lot of respect for. Two or three years ago, we had identified Sabre as a business that could help drive us, the wider Starn Energy project, forward. We are very pleased to be able to offer a home to Sabre and the people coming across.”

Doug Smith Managing Director of Sabre commented, “The acquisition of Sabre by Starn is a great opportunity for Sabre to benefit from the support and expertise that being part of a bigger organisation provides, as well as having a detailed growth plan and the means to execute these plans successfully. The whole team is excited and enjoying the opportunities and support we are already receiving. We are all looking forward to a successful future.”
